Town and Villages of “Uzerche”

September 2, 2016

018Before I visited “Uzerche” I learned that it was called the “Pearl of the Limousin.” And named by famous English Writer, “Arthur Young.”

Why was it the Pearl of this Greenest Farming Province?  After I visited the town and its villages, I discovered the beauty behind the name.029To  explore this extraordinary “Pearl” we entered into a small town named “vieille ville.” It is one of the most fabulous part of France.026Uzerche is a historic town in the department of Correze which lies in the arrondissement of Brive-La-Gaillarde.  This Medieval part of Correze stands high on the side of the “Vezere River,” overlooking a hillside of green vegetation.  Limousin in the proud province of this beauty.024Uzerche was more than I expected, it exceeded my expectations.  As I traveled through,  I came up the hill overlooking the “River Uzerche.” I was astounded to the scenic view that this historic medieval town released to the reality of my eyes. 030 - Chateau de TayacThe hill is where all the visitors head to because this is where the old town was built.  On top that hill is the untold story of the beautiful village to the North and South of the River bank. This scenic view is not only good to be told by someone else. It is a must to touch it with your own senses and see it for yourself.                                                                  027Le Chateau de la Porte de Becharie – overlooks the extraordinary view across the Vézère River from the city wall.                                                                                                                                                                  031Bécharie Gate is the only remaining gate out of three gates the surrounds the city of Uzerche. The facades and said city gate Barrachaude door and various parts were classified by historical monument in 1907 and 1987.  It is now owned by the French municipality.                                                                                                                                017Uzerche possess the beauty of the pasts. Its original infrastructures remain standing in its original glory.  Wherever you go in France you will not miss ancient cities and towns.   You will encircle yourselves with the outdated mode de vie that the French has always kept alive.  They live with them in the new era of the modern day living.

There are many old features in Uzerche. The Abbey church of St Peter and St Andrew that was consecrated in the year of 1097.  It is a colossal 11th Century building that intimidate and braces the skyline with its three embattled towers

020 - Saint EulalieWhen in France, you shall never farms and prairies.

003 When the weather is too hot, these animals find sanctuary under the cool shades of the lush green trees.                                                                             002

010After we left the old town on the River Uzerche, we drove into a small country village on top of a hill.  I  fell for the houses and their climbing foliage. The roses and Wisterias spreading its green accents and embracing the beautiful sunny weather.                                                                                                          045

044Cottages and climbing roses are the famous beauties of French homes                                                                                                        011I asked the gentleman if he would give me permission to take some pics of his cottage, he was so wonderful enough to give me the go ahead.

012One other thing that I adored are old walls with all the plants growing on them.

013And right opposite the red rose cottage was another cottage that the shutters were closed and perhaps owners were not home for the holiday yet.

015Although I know that Uzerche is called Pearl of Limousin.” And having toured the department of Correze, it has an extraordinary beauty and historical image.   I would reflect “Uzerche” as “The Citadel of Correze.”                                                               042We drove down a country lane as we left behind beautiful Uzerche.   014I thank luck to have given me the chance to reach out for a visit of this astonishing historical town. 038
